Divinely feminine, sacred and blessed - the spiritual side of Rose Oil

Attached, committed or single at this time of year it’s difficult to avoid the shelves stocked with cards, flowers, and gifts offered on the altar of love. Valentines day looms, the shops are overflowing with bouquets of roses of all colours and so it seemed a good time to talk about the spiritual side of this beautiful bloom.

I’ve been an aromatherapist for almost 25 years now, and in all that time Rose oil has maintained a special place in my heart and my box of essential oils. Sweet, warm, deeply floral, comforting and heady this is oil is truly a gift from the angels and the Earth. The scent that softly escapes as I open the bottle arises as a whisper of calmness, a deep breath of peace which curls through the air bringing the essence of the Goddess, the scent of angels and a connection to that deep feminine place in all us - our hearts.

There’s a reason we give roses to those we love, or to say sorry, the same reason that rose petals are scattered at weddings and other celebrations. Because they embody love, peace, happiness, acceptance and gratitude. They resonate completely with our heart centres and are universally understood in the language of flowers.

As an essential oil rose oil offers a multiple of ways to connect to our hearts. Luxurious and expensive it’s treasured by aromatherapists for the comfort and peace it brings to the hurt and heartsick clients. Whilst many oils have alternatives that will do a similar job Rose Oil stands alone as irreplaceable.

To begin with there’s the production of it. It takes approximately 4000 kilos of rose petals to produce 1 kilo of oil, the flowers have to be harvested in the early morning before the heat of the Sun begins to bring the oil to the surface of the petals.

The most renowned oil is harvested in Bulgaria, and the way the flowers are processed provides two different essential oils - an absolute produced by maceration or extraction where the oil is extracted by use of oil or wax and the more expensive but softer oil produced by traditional steam distillation known as Rose Otto. Both contain over 300 chemical compounds.

And thats just the science bit.

Spiritually Rose Oil vibrates at the highest frequency of any essential oil. Most other oils vibrate at around 52mhz whilst Rose Oils vibrations are extremely high - 320mhz, one of the highest vibrational oils on the planet.

Used all over the planet you can see evidence in Ancient Greece where it was known as the flower of Aphrodite (Venus in Roman times - the Goddess of Love); it’s also associated with Goddesses in India and ancient China. It’s often used in religious celebrations, ceremonies and festivals and is placed on gravestones to show loss, sorry, gratitude and love.

Astrologically it resonates with the zodiac symbol of Taurus who has as its ruling planet the planet of love itself Venus. Ideal for overstressed Taureans.

Rose Oil vibrates with the energy of Universal Love, unconditional love, a connection with the divine that resides in all of us. One of its many gifts is to ease the heartache and heaviness of the burdened soul making it a perfect oil for HSP’s, empaths and introverts who can easily take on the emotions of those around them.

Every oil resonates with at least one chakra and not surprisingly Rose is associated with the heart chakra. And, as the heart chakra connects the upper (spiritual) and lower (physical) chakras it works on balancing the entire chakra system and goes the extra mile in that its also pretty awesome at repairing the auric layers too.

Numerologically it vibrates to the number 6, the number associated spiritually with Universal Love.

Elementally it falls under the water element, and if you love crystals then the best ones to work with when using rose oil are rose quartz, ruby, pink kunzite, petalite, emerald, pink opal or any of the heart stones that help to instil confidence and open the heart chakra.

Spiritual Uses

Being an aromatherapist my usual use of this sacred oil is in a massage blend but there are a few other really special ways you can benefit from the spiritual benefits of using Rose Oil:

  • Meditation. You could choose to light a rose scented candle, diffuser or wax burner whilst you meditate, or one of my favourites is to rub some blended rose oil into the palms of my hands, bring my hands up to my face and breathe in the scent. You could place a dot of oil on your third eye and/or heart centre too to help with calming your mind, bringing in peace, clarity, inner vision, and to connect to unconditional love. Definitely one to use if your meditation is to connect in with the divine feminine or goddess energy.

  • Self-care. Any time out can benefit from rose oil, whether you add it to your bath (bath salts or oils are wonderful for relaxation *please remember to use a dispersent if you intend to use the essential oil); body lotion, face masks, candles etc will all create a loving vibration around you, oh and it’s a wonderful skin oil too.

  • Rituals. Rose oil has long been used in rituals. Womens circles, retreats, workshops and more are ideal places to bring in a ritual with rose oil to open up the energy, connect to the heart energy of the group and allow for open, honest and aligned discussion. Create an altar with rose petals and heart crystals, or a circle of flowers in the centre of the room. You can use a room/aura spritz to open up the circle. In your home add roses to your altar, or a rose candle or incense.

  • Sacred Space. Each sacred space comes with intention. Holding the energy of that intention makes it a safe space to connect wtih your higher self or give others a place to express their emotions. Rose oil helps with that connection, to feel safe and supported, increases trust and personal power whilst allowing a deeper link to higher wisdom and consciousness.

  • Pulse Oil. Easy to make, gorgeous to use and because of its size it’s perfect for on the go. Pulse point oils come in roller balls or small bottles and are intended to be rolled onto your pulse at your wrists, neck or temples (if it’s a bottle you’re carrying you just inhale directly from the bottle or add a few drops to a tissue and inhale). Ideal if you’re feeling anxious or stressed for a quick hit of calm. One thing to check before you buy is that your pulse point blend does contain rose oil, many of those I’ve seen replace rose oil with rose geranium, a cheaper option which whilst equally wonderful doesn’t come with the same vibration as rose oil itself.

  • Annointing. This is truly special way of connecting with the essence of the rose. By blending a drop of rose oil with a teaspoon of base oil you have a wonderful oil ready to annoint the chakras bringing your energy body back into alignment and emotional balance. Annointing with rose oil can help release blockages, anger, fear, resentment, bitterness, sadness, regret and other negative emotions. Create your blended oil in a small bowl or recepticle that holds a special energy for you, hold the bowl and set your intention into the oil - what do you want it to do? What emotions do you want to release or replace. Which goddess do you want to connect with? What is the purpose of your annointing oils, place that intention into the oil itself and then in a sacred space annoint each individual chakra (or the ones you want to focus on) with the oil. Finish by placing more oil in the palms of your hands and bring them up to your face as you breathe in the scent and allow it to surround your auric field repairing any tears that might be present. End by expressing gratitude placing your hands over your heart chakra.

Rose oil is perfect for any of us on a spiritual path. One of the greatest lessons we come here to learn is that of love. Compassion, wisdom and forgiveness, acceptance, unconditional love and gratitude all come together in the heart centre. Rose oil brings in the angelic realms, the divine feminine and a connection back to all that is - to source itself. It’s a wonderful emotional healer, helping us to lay down the burden of pain, to open up to love and forgiveness and to remind us that we are all connected deeply, spiritually and, in this lifetime humanly too.

I guess that might explain why it holds a special place both in my toolkit and my heart. And, if you want a pulse point oil for yourself you can order one through me in the safe knowledge that it will contain pure rose oil.

As always, blessings,

Heather
