Snow Moon in Leo.

This month’s Full Moon falls under fiery, passionate Leo. Rising at 7.34am on Sunday 9th February thankfully this is a lighter moon energetically than January’s Lunar Eclipse.

Known as the Snow or Hunger Moon February’s moon will rise to its fullest just before sunrise, and weather permitting should be stunning as it’s also the 4th largest and therefore 4th brightest moon this year.

Leo is ruled by the Sun, and this makes this an interesting Moon as the Moon rises under Leo opposing the Sun in Aquarius. But the main influence this month is Mars - fiery, assertive, strong and courageous when mixed with Leo qualities means this is an ideal time to be open and honest about what we want from life. About how we want to live, to stand up for ourselves, our beliefs and our values. Listen to your intuition over the next couple of weeks, it will be strong and easily heard. Knowing what you want and what you need means that you can be clear and direct in your message, not aggressive, bossy or pushy but with honest sincerity that can win respect and admiration. When your message is clear you can communicate without high energy, instead being calm, grounded and steadfast in your words and your meaning.

As Full Moons are about releasing, letting go of things, people, patterns etc this one is a really good one for letting go of what no longer lights us up. Releasing something or someone that no longer inspires passion but rather dread or sorrow. It’s time to focus on living a life of purpose. What makes you feel inspired? Passionate? Real? What lights you up when you do it? Excites you and shouts YES. And then in asking these questions we need to consider what it is that is stopping us from living a life of purpose. Are we afraid that in taking those steps we might rock the boat? Worried about the changes that might result? What impacts they might have. It’s not always easy stepping out of your comfort zone, especially when the changes you need to make might impact on your loved ones or relationships.

But one of the aspects of a Leo Moon is that of relationships. Use the energy to take a good honest look at your relationships, your family life, friendships and work/life balance. What is working for you and what isn’t? What can you change? Try and not let the heated emotions that can come with a full moon turn into tension, conflict and drama. Keep a good head on and state your thoughts with clarity and intention. Be kind.

Returning to the things that might be holding you back, now might be a good time to work on creating a little space in your life for what you need to be doing to let go of those fears. A Full Moon ritual is always a powerful connection to releasing. You’ll need to ask yourself some deep questions but then think about how it would feel to let go of what no longer serves you. To release that load you’ve been carrying. To stand up for yourself and what you want and need to live life to its fullest. Set your intentions, connect in with your higher self, your soul energy - what is your soul crying out for? Be brave, work with the energy and courage of Lions to help you step forward, take the first step to change. Make a plan. If you feel it would help, use an affirmation. Write it down and put it somewhere you’ll see it every day. Then every time you see it, read it, out loud if you can. Repeat it and feel it until it becomes part of you and the change is beginning. It’s up to you to make the change. To take those steps if you decide to.

Mars, like Leo is an action energy which amplifies the energy of power. Take action on your own life.

Full Moon Ritual

Ideally for a Full Moon Ritual you would be outside under a clear sky with the beautiful illumination of the moon goddess above you. Sadly, oftentimes in the UK the weather prevents us from doing so and this Full Moon looks set to be a wet and windy one. Not the ideal conditions for being outside. The next best thing is to be near a window, preferably one that is catching the light of the moon. Here’s my favourite ritual for releasing under the Full Moon.

  1. Start by cleansing your space with an aura spray, moon water, sage or Palo Santo. Whatever you like to use to cleanse and clear space is wonderful. Remember to cleanse yourself too.

  2. Call upon your Spirit Guides, Angels, Elementals or whoever you choose to work with to join you.

  3. I like to set up a crystal grid using crystals that help with whatever I’m working on releasing. I also have a crystal at hand to hold during my meditation. Sometimes I add feathers, petals, leaves, moss or flowers to the grid. And always a candle.

  4. Now it’s time to begin connecting with the energy of what you want to release. You can choose to write it down, draw it out or use some other creative way of expressing the relationship, block, energy, habit, emotion, pattern etc that you want to let go of.

  5. If you enjoy meditation now is a good time to meditate on releasing using powerful letting go words. If not, you could use a spoken intention to state what you are working on.

  6. Once you have meditated and stated your intention to release allow yourself to sit and imagine/see that blockage or other moving away from you up to the Moon and leaving your energy. Feel what it feels like to no longer carry it. Where can you feel it releasing from? Fill that area with love and illuminate it with light. Hold that light energy there until it feels settled.

  7. Once you feel that the releasing work is done take your piece of paper and either burn it (safely) or rip it to shreds affirming to yourself as you do so that the work is done.

  8. Thank your helpers, give gratitude to the Lunar Goddess and then blow out your candle. Let go of any expectations other than being lighter and freer.

If possible, you could leave your grid for the next 24 hours to complete charging your crystals and can use those to make Moon Water. We’re very lucky this year that we have 13 Full Moons to work on releasing under, 2 are Super Moons and we have just the one Blue Moon. All of them give us opportunities to work with the energies and let go of what no longer serves us.

Full Moon Blessings.
